Eulogy and Thoughts of a Grieving Son!

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Beneficent

In late afternoon of August 13th, 2015, our beloved teacher and my beloved father passed away to meet his Creator.

The funeral and the burial of this incredible educator was conducted in the afternoon the following day, Friday, August 14.

Following is a eulogy and a set of thoughts to honor this wonderful man who shaped me as a son, sculpted me as a student, fashioned me as an educator, and above all fostered in me the pride of being a caring Muslim whose language is the language of Qur'an (Arabic.)

*
The most caring of fathers, he was
The most genuine of Muslims, he was
The best of educators, he was
The fairest of disciplinarians, he was
The friendliest of humans, he was
The sweetest of companions, he was
Thank you Didi for being who you are!

**
Education is weeping...
How come I inquired?
"One of my pillars collapsed," she replied.
RIP Didi, Sidi Naajee!

***
May Allah (SWT) reward you for
the care you had given everyone you interacted with,
the respect you had shown everyone who crossed your path,
the learning you had generously gifted every student you taught,
the education you had set on a pedestal for everyone to admire,
and the sublime character you had infected all of us with.

****
Allah (SWT), I beseech you to bless the dearest of fathers, Ibrahim Nadji (RA), and bestow your mercy upon him for every student he taught, for every smile he shined upon people, for every individual he influenced, for every soul he supported, and for raising me and my siblings the persons that we are.

*****
My love for knowledge, you infected me with it
My voraciousness for books, you taught me it
My adherence to fairness, you compassed it in me
My incessant curiosity, you consistently watered it
My pride in Islam, you nurtured it in me
My great appreciation of Arabic, you sweetened it
What's more can a son ask for from a father?
An orphan father who never saw his father,
A father who never had lessons on fathering!
Heart of my heart, how in the world can I ever thank you enough?

******
And as he told me on more than one occasion when our conversations did not conclude, "Wa lilHadithi Baqiya..." Loosely translated, "And to the conversation, there is a follow up..."
